Before You Buy
Take this to every show. If any box stays unchecked, pause and get an expert opinion.
1The signature
- Lines look fast and fluid, not slow or shaky
- Strokes start and end with natural tapers
- Letter shapes match several verified examples
- Signature style fits the era of the item
- Not identical to a widely published example
2Ink & item
- Pen type makes sense for the item and its age
- No skipping, pooling or retraced lines
- Ink sits on top of the surface (not printed)
- No dot pattern under magnification
- Item shows no signs of alteration or reprinting
3The seller & listing
- Photos show the actual item, front and back
- Price is in line with recent sold prices
- Seller explains where the item came from
- Seller has a history and positive feedback
- Not one of many 'rare' signers from one source
4The certificate
- Issued by an established, reachable company
- Has a unique serial number
- Number matches the hologram or sticker on the item
- Verifies in the issuer's online database
- Online record describes this exact item
